Governor John Nyagarama has been given a week to reinstate 500 ECDE teachers whose contracts were not renewed in May this year.
As a move to curb ballooning wage bill, Nyagarama refused to renew the contracts of Phase two ECDE teachers, arguing that the country already has enough.
But on Tuesday, MCAs the county boss an ultimatum of 7 days to reinstate the affected teachers, failure to which he will he subjected to a showdown.
"We don't have enough teachers. If the governor cannot reinstate them yet we budgeted for them, he will rather resign. We have no time for sluggishness," said Nyansiongo MCA Dennis Kebaso.
Majority Leader and Township MCA Duke Masira ordered that the ECDE teachers resume duties immediately, warning that assembly will not accept anything less of it.
"The ECDE teachers who are listening to me, return to your work stations. If you're not paid, we shall paralyse business in the county," he said.
Speaker Moffat Teya ordered education minister Gladys Momanyi to report to the assembly in a week's time to table the report on the progress.
Last month, Governor John Nyagarama sent home three payroll officers who were accused of irregularly sneaking in names of over 1000 workers to the payroll.
Of Sh5 billion equitable share, almost Sh4.9 billion goes for recurrent expenditure and operations, a move that leaves few millions for development.
