Kenyans have continued to elicit mixed reactions after it emerged that organisers of the American televangelist Thomas Dexter Jakes’ tour are charging Sh75,000 just to dine with him.
Renowned law scholar Prof Makau Mutua has also weighed in on the issue.
The lawyer took to his Twitter handle and asked how the man of God could ask Kenyans to part with such huge amount of money just to sit in the same room with him.
He said that the preacher is being unfair to Kenyans considering the economic position of the nation.
“What man of God charges Sh75, 000 ($750) in a country whose per capita GDP income is $2000 to do good works? Shame,” he tweeted.
Edna Kiarie, who works with the public relations firm contracted for the summit, said that all the tickets will be sold at the same price. She also said that the demand for the tickets has been quite high because of the popularity of the preacher.
Speaking at the SOAR Africa press briefing at Villa Rosa Kempinski Hotel Nairobi on Thursday, TD Jakes expressed his gratitude after being accorded warm reception upon arrival into the country.
He also said that he longs to interact with different groups of people while in Kenya.
“As a CEO of TD Jakes Enterprise, I understand the importance of business, how to do it and how to survive best so as to enhance our lifestyles beyond spirituality,” he said, as quoted by Daily Nation.
