Deputy President William Ruto has now wished Jubilee Candidate MacDonald Mariga all the best after President Uhuru Kenyatta endorsed him for the by-election.
The DP said that the party is fully behind the former footballer after the unveiling. He asked Mariga to do his best so that he can emerge victorious in the contest as he takes on other candidates from different parties.
"Now that Mariga JUBILEE'S Kibra candidate was cleared by IEBC and formally unveiled today by our PARTY LEADER, it is all systems go. The ball is squarely in the court of ALL of us leaders serving under PRES. UHURU, party members & supporters to deliver the seat. Twende kazi jameni," he tweeted.
President Uhuru announced that he fully supports Mariga after weeks of speculations on his choice for the Kibra seat.
"The President wished Mr Mariga, who was accompanied by Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju, success in the contest and assured him of his full backing,” State confirmed.
The head of state made the remarks when he hosted Mariga at State alongside DP Ruto. Others who were present were National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale and Jubilee Party Chief Whip Benjamin Washiali.
Mariga is now expected to take on ODM Imran Okoth and ANC candidate Eliud Owalo.
