Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Chris Obure has noted that highly detailed data collected by enumerators in the ongoing census is likely to slow the exercise taking up to an hour per household.
Speaking in Nyamira on Monday during a press briefing, Obure said he believes the kind of questions asked by the enumerators will help the government in serving its citizens.
"The kind of questions asked are highly detailed. It needs some thinking for one to respond. Am convinced that it might even take longer for villagers to respond. This is likely to slow the exercise," he said.
"Am impressed in the manner in which this exercise is carried out. I believe the data collected which is detailed will help the government in service delivery," added the CAS.
Responding to questions, Obure said so far there has been no ugly incidents worth reporting in Kisii and Nyamira Counties.
He noted that security teams are alert.
With enumerators starting to carry out the census exercise during the day on Tuesday, Obure encouraged Kenyans who might not have been reached to freely contact the area chief for enumeration.
"We don't want anybody to be left out in this historic exercise," he said.
