President Uhuru Kenyatta has condoled with the death of the vice-chair of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) Fatuma Tabwara.
In his condolence message, the head of state said that Ms Tabwara was among the most promising women leaders hailing from the coastal region.
“It is very sad indeed that we have lost one of the promising women leaders in the Coast region. In this hour of sorrow and grief, I convey my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to her family, relatives and friends, " the president said.
“It is my prayer that the Almighty God will give you the strength and courage to bear the loss,” the head of state added.
State House, in a statement, observed that the late vice-chair was an inspiration to young girls and wielded tremendous influence.
According to media reports, the NCIC vice-chair collapsed in Kwale during a wedding ceremony of a close relative.
Her death comes just a month after she was sworn in by Chief Justice David Maraga as NCIC vice-chair, taking over from the team that was led by Francis Ole Kaparo, who served as the head of NCIC.
Other leaders including Mombasa county boss Governor Ali Hassan Joho mourned the passing of Tabwara.
