The Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle has revealed that her friends advised her against tying the knot with her lover Prince Harry.
According to the friends, agreeing to marry the member of the British royalty would expose her to the rabid tabloids.
In a documentary aired on ITV, Meghan said that motherhood had been a struggle for her given the fierce interest from British tabloids.
“When I first met my now husband, my friends were really happy because I was so happy. But my British friends said to me: ‘I’m sure he’s great. But you shouldn’t do it because the British tabloids will destroy your life, " she said as quoted by the Guardian.
Meghan confessed to being naive at the time and ended up dismissing the concerns of her friends.
"What are you talking about? That doesn’t make any sense. I’m not in the tabloids. I didn’t get it. So, it’s been complicated,” she noted.
The revelation comes in the wake of brewing legal battle between the members of the royal family and the Daily Mail, a British tabloid.
Meghan and Harry have accused the Daily Mail of making their lives difficult by publishing what they have characterised as untrue stories about them.
Given their stature, the lives of the two have attracted tremendous interest from mainstream publications with some breaching their privacy.
