Unlike engaging in vigorous exercises with the intention of losing weight, expectant mothers are advised to only take part in safe exercises such as squats. It is, however, important to consult your doctor before you start doing the squats.

Here are some of the benefits of doing squats during pregnancy.

1. Squats shorten labour

Doing full squats at the final stages of pregnancy helps in inducing labour. Full squats will help in working and preparing key muscles that are involved in childbirth. Squats also make the blood pump to key areas in the body which makes the whole body ready for the labour process. When the muscles are prepared, it takes less time for the baby to be delivered. A study by Gardosi And coUeagues found out that squatting can reduce labour time by 11 minutes.

2. Squats makes it easy for mothers to deliver

According to the American Pregnancy Association, squatting can open the expectant mother's birth canal by 10 per cent, thus making it easier for the baby to be delivered.

3. Squatting prevents constipation

Some women might experience constipation during their final stages of pregnancy. This can be prevented by doing squats which improves the functioning of the digestive system and prevents the accumulation of gas in the alimentary canal.
