As he takes over as the new Rift Valley Regional Coordinator, a hard task lies ahead of former Narok County Commissioner George Natembeya.
He is taking over from Mwongo Chimwanga, in a region known for among others, notorious cases of cattle rustling and rising numbers of illegal gun holders.
He will also have to deal with cases of banditry which have for long characterised Baringo, West Pokot, Turkana and Samburu counties.
However, Natembeya whose previous tenure at some point took controversial turns, landing him in problems with locals and politicians, says that he is ready to combat the situation.
“I am well aware of the challenges in the region and I am equall to the task. I will crush cattle rustling," he said as he took over the realms of power.
Security Expert Simiyu Werunga says that Natembeya, despite his previous achievements, should brace for a tougher and riskier task.
"Natembeya might be an experienced administrator who has addressed some serious issues like encroachment in the Maasai Mau forest, but he is now walking into a minefield," observed the analyst.
Also in his in the tray is the push by the minority Ogiek community to have the National Land Commission (NLC) issue it with a communal title for 21 blocks of the Mau Forest.
On the other hand, Natembeya has been in the front line in the push to oust forest dwellers from the water complexes.
