Uasin Gishu county deputy governor Daniel Chemno has strongly condemned imported milk powder that has flooded the local markets in the region claiming it will kill dairy farming.
Noting that the region majorly dwells on the dairy farming, the DG said that packaged powder milk alleged to be imported from Uganda need to be stopped.
"We have free border market in East African countries but there should be regulations to be put in place to save dairy industry in the North Rift region," said Mr Chemno.
Speaking during celebration of Jamuhuri Day, the county second-in-command said that liquid milk should be allowed to percolate into the country.
He was supported by the County Director of Kenya Farmers Association (KFA) Kipkorir Menjo who warned that without immediate intervention from the Ministries for Agriculture and Trade, then there would be no reason for farmers to engage in an unprofitable activity.
"We have been complaining of poor prices on our produce, and it is even worse when our agricultural sector is affected by external factors," said Mr Menjo who added that farmers should be protected for the better economy of the country.
