Lupita has revealed that she drew a lot of ideas from her childhood to write the book.

''#Sulwe is out today & in honor of her debut, I wanted to take you back to the day she was born for me. Just days before the 2014 #Oscars, I gave a speech at @Essence's Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon,'' wrote Lupita

Her book is about colourism and self-esteem. She uses Sulwe as the main actor in the book.

Lupita, during the launch of her book, revealed how she used to read books as a young girl. She noted that the people she used to read about looked different from her, they were white, and she is black.

Her book talks about colourism, discrimination or prejudice against black people all over the world.

“…even in Kenya, even today, there is a popular sentiment that lighter is brighter,” Lupita said as quoted by Citizen Digital

However, she pointed out that her main actor, Sulwe celebrates being black and nothing will hold her back.

In a past interview, Lupita revealed that she never experienced racism until when she stepped in the USA.

However, she has used her book to help black people celebrate their unique beautiful skin.

The launch of her book comes barely a week after her father, Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o launched his new book "Presidential of Parliamentary Democracy in Kenya," in Kisumu.
