A Catholic Church cleric has moved to the Nakuru High Court seeking legal orders to manage an estate valued at Sh60 million that was left following the death of a Bishop.
Nakuru Catholic Bishop Maurice Muhatia in his succession suit told the court that when Bishop Peter Kabugi died, he left a valid written will dated October 10, 2017, in which he appointed Muhatia as the executor and trustee of his estate.
Muhatia who vowed to observe the law while administering the estate was quoted by Daily Nation saying; “I am seeking a grant of representation to the deceased on the grounds that I am the executor named in the Will.”
He told the court that the late Kabugi had identified his mother as one of the major beneficiaries of the Sh60 million together with 29 seminarians of the Nakuru Catholic Diocese.
The cleric said Kabugi who died on November 7, 2017, left behind no child and he owned land in Nakuru, Njoro and Ngata together with accounts in NIC and ABC banks.
The late priest who also had a motor vehicle and shares in different companies is said to have left all his land parcels and half of all his money to his mother, Lucia Wanjiku.
“I give half of my money whatsoever, all my immovable properties to my beloved parents Mr Daniel Mungai and Mrs Lucia Wanjiku. All my land and half of all my monies I give to Ms Wanjiku. Catholic Diocese of Nakuru Seminarians to get half of the money at NIC Bank accounts,” reads part of the will quoted by Daily Nation.
The mother, according to the will, will also get his son’s shares in the various companies, a laptop, the vehicle, and his Samsung Galaxy S8 mobile phone.
Hearing of the case will continue on October 24.
