Kisumu-based human rights activist Boniface Ogutu Akatch has claimed there’s a plan to attack him, over his sustained pressure to address environmental pollution, allegedly being propagated by Kibos Sugar Factory and Allied Industries.

In a post on his Facebook page on Tuesday morning, Akatch dared ‘goons’ allegedly planning to attack him, indicating that he is ready to pay the ultimate price, if and when push comes to shove.

“I dare the goons planning to attack me over my sustained pressure to address the pollution in Kibos to do so. I will never be afraid and very ready to pay the ultimate prize. I hear I have been singled out and a plan has already been hatched by sympathizers of the Kibos factories to malign my name before eventually violating me,” he posted.

He claimed he has been warned against appearing in court on the 19th of this month during the judgment of an appeal case by the company, against an order to close the factories over environmental pollution.

He, however, did not provide evidence to back the said claims.

The case was heard by three Court of Appeal judges namely; Patrick Kiage, Milton Makhandia and Professor James Otieno Odek.

Unfortunately, Judge Odek died on Monday December, 16, 2019, with his body being discovered in his house in Milimani, Kisumu.

In July this year, the Environment and Lands Court in Kisumu ordered for the closure of Kibos Sugar and Allied Industries Ltd following a petition filed by locals of Kisumu East over environmental pollution.
