Kisii County Governor James Ongwae on Wednesday received a delegation from the Lake Victoria Water Basin Authority who are in the county to help actualize construction works for Mokubo water project in Bomachoge Borabu Constituency.
The project is funded by the Unicredit Bank of Austria to a tune of 800 million shillings is an initiative of the county government and is implemented by the Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency(LVSWWDA).The governor said once operational, the water project will serve residents of Magenche ward and parts of Chitago Borabu in South Mugirango."Water supply has been a challenge in the county and my administration is keen on developing water schemes, boreholes and reticulation programmes to help avail the commodity to county residents," said Ongwae.He, however, noted that the water table levels have been receding due to weather changes and called for deliberate efforts to help conserve and revive our water catchment areas.The governor cited the haphazard growing of eucalyptus trees in water catchment and riparian areas and asked residents to replace the blue gum with water-friendly tree varieties.He said that failure to conserve the natural water sources will result in inadequate water supply in the water schemes.
