Kisii police commander Martin Kibet said parents must be responsible all through the time the children will be at home for the holiday.

Kibet reiterated that police officers will be patrolling day and night to ensure no underage child is attending disco-matanga or night clubs.

"Schools have closed for August holiday and therefore, I urge parents to be responsible. No parent will be spared should his or her child found at a disco-matanga at night or in a night club," he said.

The commander urged parents also not to allow their children to provide cheap labour at people's farms saying the children should be allowed to rest so that they can return to school for the third term while fresh.

Kibet appealed to local chiefs to help police identify parents boycotting their parental duties for necessary legal action to be taken.

"Parents who fail to take parental responsibility for their children risk arrest and arraignment in court. Parents or guardians should ensure the safety of their children during the August holiday," said the commander.
