President Uhuru Kenyatta has summoned all politicians from the Mt Kenya region ahead of the release of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.
The head of state is expected to discuss a wide range of issues as he meets leaders from his stronghold at the Sagana State Lodge, Citizen Digital reports. The meeting comes at a time when leaders from the region are divided on the report.
Uhuru, who is completing his second term in office, had previously cancelled several tours to the region. Last Sunday, Uhuru was expected to grace a church function in Murang’a but he failed to show up hence leaving the residents angered.
The leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto have been apprehensive of Uhuru’s criticisms to their side over the growing rebellion from the region. The leaders are likely to face dire consequences if they fail to attend the meeting.
Uhuru has directed all elected as well as nominated leaders from the region to attend the meeting. It is expected that at least 4000 Leaders from the Mt Kenya turf will be present at the event.
The leaders will include Governors, MPs, Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) as well as some community leaders.
The release of the BBI report has caused tension in the region. Some of DP Ruto’s allies have promised to shoot down the report. They believe the report aims at blocking DP Ruto from rising to power in 2022.
