According to the Sub-county Police Commander Simon Thirikwa, the suspects are in police custody where they are undergoing interrogation.

“Some were arrested immediately after the attacks. We are questioning them before we produce them in court,” Thirikwa said.

Thirikwa further labelled the attackers as 'common criminals' and vowed that they will face the law.

County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo confirmed that a good number of the suspects hailed from Kisauni area.

Police officers had recently discovered the hideout of the gang. The gangs are alleged to have been staying in houses that were marked 86 Battalion.

The survivors of the attack are nursing injuries with some of them in hospital and others discharged.

Poor parentage and unemployment have been highlighted as one of the major reasons for youths to join crime.

"Parents are afraid of their children. 'What are you saying old man?' He goes and comes back to ask for money if he is unsuccessful.(Mzazi mwenyewe anamwogopa mtoto wake. 'wewe buda unasemaje?' Anakwenda ikiwa hakufaulu anarudi kwa mzazi, nataka pesa)," Omar Mzee, a resident of Mgongeni, told Citizen TV.
