Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha is among the finalists of the Global Citizen of the Year Award.
The former University of Nairobi Vice-Chancellor is battling for the award with other big names from all over the world.
The award is meant to honour individuals who have played an immense role in the fight against extreme levels.
He was nominated for the award because of his desire to build and strengthen institutions of learning since he entered the education sector several years ago.
During his tenure as VC of the University of Nairobi, Magoha earned praise after he managed to secure $2.41 million to facilitate research at the institution.
He also worked at the Kenya National Exam Council (KNEC), where he wholeheartedly fought graft.
His firmness, and strict adherence to the law has enabled him streamline national examinations in Kenya.
Since he took over at KNEC, national examinations have been well coordinated with utmost integrity.
The cases of exam malpractices also reduced considerably during his tenure at Mitihani House.
While releasing the 2019 KCSE results, he urged parents to accept and celebrate what they kids managed to score.
"You used your own blood to produce the child…whatever your child brings home should be celebrated. So all this nonsense that ‘you’ve failed me go and repeat’ think about it twice before you condemn the child," he said.
