It has emerged that Deputy President William Ruto locked out a section of his Tangatanga faction of Jubilee Party members, as a punishment for failing him in Kibra.
The DP was reportedly angry with the team, which had been deployed to secure the seat, after they failed to do so, and denied then access to his home on Thursday evening.
The Nation reports that the plan was that the team retreats to his Karen residence to analyze the outcome.
However, on realizing that Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga was losing, he reportedly called to notify them that he was not receiving anyone, as it was getting late.
The paper reports that the DP was infuriated that after spending all that energy in the campaigns, Mariga lost with a huge margin to ODM's Imran Okoth, and felt betrayed, after initially expressing confidence in winning.
"The people of Kibra have turned up in numbers to vote for their MP resisting the violence narrative by our opponents. Peaceful voting is going on in many polling centres and security officers are on alert to deal with acts of lawlessness. Change is imminent!” he had tweeted on Thursday morning, as Kibra residents retreated to the polls to vote.
In a change of tune after Mariga's defeat, the DP who had initially vowed to deliver the seat saidnthay while Jubilee lost, it had made a point in the opposition dominated location.
This is as he congratulated Imran for his win, observing that Jubilee had lowered the percentage with which it lost to ODM in the 2017 general polls.
"Pongezi (congratulations) Benard Okoth for Kibra. Congrats Mariga, Team Jubilee & supporters for daring the so called 'bedroom', braving the chaos/violence to double our vote from 12 per cent (2017) to 26 per cent now. Our competitors came down 78 per cent (2017) to 52 per cent. They retained the seat we have served notice," he tweeted.
