Ex-Kakamega Senator Dr Boni Khalwale has been thrown back to the drawing board following Wednesday's declaration by a section of Jubilee officials in Kakamega.
Dr Khalwale joined Jubilee Party in May this year and has seen been drumming support for Deputy President William Ruto ahead of 2022 polls.
Led by Moses Lumiti, the officials slammed Khalwale, insisting that he's not guaranteed a Jubilee Party ticket for Kakamega gubernatorial seat.
“Allowing Khalwale to join Jubilee is not a guarantee that he's the de facto candidate for the gubernatorial seat (Kwa sisi kumruhusu khalwale kujiunga na sisi haimanishi ametakazwa kuwania ugavana katika chama chetu,” Lumiti stated.
“The party has its rules that must be followed. When the right time comes, we shall sit and agree on the right candidates. He is not our candidate at the time (Chama kina sheria yake ambayo lazma ifwatwe. Ikifika wakati tutakaa chini judaliane na tuone tutawaunga akina nani mkono, kwa sisi kumkaribisha katika chama haimanishi tumemtakaza kupeperusha bendera hiyo), he added.
A section of Jubilee leaders in Western region believes that Khalwale is a newcomer and that he should relax to allow first entrants to guide him.
He's keen to succeed Governor Wycliffe Oparanya. Senator Cleophas Malala is also interested in the seat. The two have intensified their campaigns.
