Family members comprising of mother and her child who drowned after their car plunged in the Indian Ocean at the Likoni Ferry channel have been identified.
The two died after their car slid from the rear of MV Harambee which was moving from the Likoni mainland to Mombasa Island.
They have been identified as Mariam Kigenda, 35, and her four-year-old daughter.
The school, MM Shah, where the minor was schooling, has also confirmed through messages sent to parents, that they had lost one of the students in the tragedy.
On Monday morning, the deceased's husband had camped at Likoni channel to follow the rescue operations which were to be conducted by police and the Kenya Navy.
An eye witness Mr Mlei Majaliwa who was on the same ferry, on Sunday evening said he had seen a woman and a boy in the vehicle.
“I saw the woman and a boy inside the car. She had started screaming and calling for help when the car started to reverse. I threw a lifesaver at them," said Mr Majaliwa as quoted by Nation
Likoni Sub County Police Commander Benjamin Rotich on the hand had said the car had four occupants.
"The woman was the driver, the information we have indicates they were four," said Mr Rotich.
