A section of Western Kenya politicians has taken issue with the appointment of Labour Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani as the interim Treasury CS.
The seat was left vacant following the arraignment of Henry Rotich in court, a situation that automatically renders the seat vacant as per the Constitution.
Navakholo MP Emanuel Wangwe has faulted President Uhuru Kenyatta for not giving the position to a person from the region, claiming that he owes them.
The MP argued that the region has not been fully considered with regards to Cabinet positions, demanding compensation following the axing of former Sports CS Rashid Echesa earlier in the year.
“We have seen some Cabinet secretaries gather in hotels to discuss their issues but for us, we have no one to represent us in those meetings,” he said as quoted by the Standard on Friday.
The remarks were echoed by Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali, who doubles up as the National Assembly Majority Whip.
Responding to the two, Kakamega Senator Cleopa Malala asked the MPs to use their ties to Deputy President William Ruto to raise the issue with the President.
"Wangwe and Washiali you don’t need to come here to tell us about Cabinet slots. You can speak to Ruto with whom you spend a lot of time together and sort out this issue,” he said.
