In his recent tour to the region last month, Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i insisted that chiefs and their assistants should be held liable for Chang'aa brewing in the region.

Dr Matiang'i also gave firm instructions to police over gambling machines, adding that foreigners operating them will be deported immediately.

And on Sunday, County Commissioner Amos Mariba said over 3,000 litres of illicit brew was nabbed at various places across the county, with Nyamira South leading.

"Our team managed to nab over 3,000 litres. It's a good progress and the crackdown will continue. We shall not spare anyone on this matter," he said.

The administrator also said that over 15 gambling machines were recovered in Nyamaiya, adding that police are still pursuing a Chinese national believed to be operating them.

Further, he added, investigations are ongoing to establish whether or not local administration is directly linked to the syndicate which has seen many youths engage in the activities.

"We destroyed 15 gambling machines. Most of them were nabbed in Nyamaiya. We are looking for the Chinese who is said to be in charge," he said.

Mr Mariba, who spoke to the media, lauded efforts by locals to report the incidents in time, adding that such cooperation is leading to successes.
