According to Professor Mauro Serafini, edible insects are an excellent source of protein, polyunsaturated fatty acids, minerals, vitamins and fiber.

“But until now, nobody had compared them with classical functional foods such as olive oil or orange juice in terms of antioxidant activity," noted Prof Serafini in a research published by Telegram.

He also noted that insects can play an instrumental role when it comes to fending off cancer.

 1. Grasshoppers

After conducting a comprehensive study, it was established that water soluble extract of this species had more antioxidants than orange juice. Moreover, it had more polyphenols , researchers noted. 3. Black ants 

Scientists at the University of Rome discovered that, their water soluble extracts have antioxidants that may help in preventing cancer.
