Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and his wife Susan Ndung'u were on Monday arraigned in court to face a raft of graft charges unsealed in an indictment by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
Both surrendered to the EACC on Sunday where they were immediately arrested and put behind bars.
Here is a list of charges that the two faces as reported by KTN; (0:07-0:18)
1. Conflict of interest
2. Dealing with suspect property
3. Willful failure to comply with procurement law
4. Engaging in a fraudulent procurement process
5. Money laundering
The Kiambu County boss has strongly denied the charges levelled against him, saying that they are politically motivated.
His administration has been at the centre of a corruption probe conducted by sleuths from the EACC.
In a bid to collect evidence to help in mounting a strong case against the governor and his associates, investigative officers raided his homes and carted away with a trove of documents.
The case has not been without drama as a Kiambu magistrate who gave the governor anticipatory bail was suspended by Chief Justice David Maraga.
It was found that the anticipatory bail was improperly given as the said magistrate had to break his sick leave to grant it.
