Several leaders in the country have sent their condolence messages following the death of Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore who died on Monday morning after a long battle with cancer.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i described Bob as a visionary leader who was committed to serve the people of Kenya without any fear or favour. Matiang'i said that Kenyans will remember him because of the leadership he offered the mobile service provider before his demise.

“I am saddened to learn of Bob Collymore’s passing this morning. His visionary stewardship at Safaricom has positively impacted the company and nation. May The Almighty rest his soul in eternal peace and give his family, friends and colleagues consolation at this time,” he said.

Chief Justice David Maraga has also reacted to the demise of Bob and eulogised him as a symbol of excellence in corporate governance.

“I join Kenyans and the world in mourning the demise of Mr Bob Collymore, the Safaricom CEO. In his death, we have lost a towering symbol of excellence in corporate governance. May God comfort his family, friends, and colleagues,” he said in a tweet.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto, and ODM leader Raila Odinga have also mourned Bob. Other leaders who sent their messages of condolences are Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi and Uasin Gishu’s Jackson Mandago.
