The chief exponent of the Punguza Mizigo Initiative revealed that he had visited the embattled governing Jubilee legislator in a tweet on Saturday.

Dr Aukot took issue with the continued detention of Moses Kuria saying that it smacked of impunity.

"Today I visited @HonMosesKuria at the Kilimani police station. I perused the bail bond, the verification of the court orders from the Magistrate. I fail to understand why @NPSOfficial_KE is refusing to obey those orders and release Hon. Kuria. Impunity," the Thirdway Alliance leader tweeted.

Kuria faces assault charges after he allegedly punched an activist at the Royal Media Services headquarters last year.

He claims that he is being subjected to persecution because of the stand that he has taken on a raft of issues of national importance.

Last night, the police lobbed teargas canisters to people who had shown up at the Kilimani police station to protest Kuria's arrest.

Pro-Deputy President Dr Willaim Ruto legislators have condemned the arrest, saying that it is aimed at punishing Kuria for associating with the country's second in command.
