Governor Sonko's lawyer Harisson Kinyanjui has weighed in on the freezing of the county boss's bank accounts.
Speaking to the press, the renowned lawyer faulted the move by the Asset Recovery Agency.
He said that the agency had not been able to prove beyond any reasonable doubt in a competent court of law that money from the county government of Nairobi had entered up in the governor's personal account.
"There was not a single penny, not one penny, that the asset recovery was able to say this money can from the county government and ended in your account, not a single shilling, " Harisson Kinyanjui said.
Governor Sonko has said that the decision to freeze his accounts has plunged his life into difficulty.
He is facing graft related charges in court filed by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
The charges were pressed after his dramatic arrest in Voi, Taita Taveta county, as he tried to avoid being arrested according to the EACC.
Among the charges he faces is the abuse of office for personal gain.
He has strongly rejected the charges, saying that they are politically motivated.
The embattled county boss was ordered not to step into his office until his corruption case is heard and determined.
A few weeks ago, he nominated his deputy, a nomination that the director of prosecutions said was null and void and in contravention of the governor's bail terms.
