Joseph has appealed to the government to exercise sobriety in the appointment of members to join the board.

He has since warned against the appointment of politically-connected individuals after the plan to privatise the same was shelved.

He noted that the success of the firm depends on how well it will be managed, adding that politics will with no doubt affect its operations.

He reminded the government to select members based on competence and experience, not the political know-how of the individuals.

Joseph, who spoke on Tuesday at the sidelines of an aviation meeting, said that the appointment must be conducted in a professional manner lest the airline lands in more woes

“It must be run in a commercial way,” he told reporters.

“We do not want to create a situation that we had before, where you nationalise the airline and all it becomes is a department of government. The board of directors is loaded by friends of politicians.”

The airline has been facing a series of problems including a huge debt burden. The plans to privatise the same were cancelled after it elicited mixed reactions from Members of Parliament.
