A section of Nairobi Members of County Assembly (MCAs) has claimed that they will only impeach Sonko after getting permission from their party leaders.
The MCAs majorly from Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party pointed out that Sonko's impeachment is not a light matter especially due to the fact that the post of the deputy governor for Nairobi county is still vacant.
Top party officials will, therefore, have to be involved in the matter in the event that the impeachment motion should be tabled in the county assembly.
“We cannot make such a major move if we have not been given the green light by our party leaders. As at now, those calling for the impeachment are a few members who want to settle scores with Sonko and we will not be party to such wars,” Nyayo Highrise MCA Kennedy Oyugi stated.
“If it is impeaching Governor Sonko, we have to get direction from party leadership and organs. We cannot just wake up and say that we have today decided to impeach the governor,” Nairobi West MCA Maurice Gari added.
The MCAs were addressing the allegations of a plot to save Sonko from impeachment by having some of the MCAs travel out of the country so as to interfere with the required quorum to pass an impeachment motion.
