Orange Democratic Movement party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna on Wednesday accused The Star newspaper over an alleged fake article.

In the article published on Wednesday, The Star claimed that Mr Odinga would be meeting Central Management Committee over impending Kibra by-election nominations.

“We hold meetings all the time. Even now, I am walking out of another meeting. There are serious party matters involving the secretariat and other by-elections that need our attention. It is not just Kibra,” the paper quoted Sifuna.

But Mr Sifuna has dismissed the claims, insisting that there is no such meeting on Thursday, adding that the party's position on nominations remain intact.

Fake newe by @TheStarKenya. There is no such meeting tomorrow or at all. There is no party effort for "consensus". The NEB is on course in its preparations for the nominations Saturday. Watu wakutane kwa debe. Very desperate propaganda," he said.

"It's time we start singling out individual journalists who are purveyors of fake news. James Mbaka of @TheStarKenya is one of them. This story is fake. Conjured in the bowels of his fertile imagination to stir disquiet and push usual narratives against @TheODMparty," he added.

ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire on Wednesday said the party is ready for nominations, adding that should the said consensus flop, candidates should be ready for universal suffrage.

"Yes, you doubting? Fine, but they must be prepared for reality in case of misunderstanding, all options on the table," said Bosire, who sits in the committee in reference to nominations.

But a source had earlier hinted to this writer that Mr Odinga is also of the opinion that candidates in Kibra by-election nominations for ODM reach a consensus before Saturday.
