The suspect, Duke Nyansing'a Ongori, was arrested by police officers from the Nyamira Police Station on Wednesday over allegations of attacking and killing his wife who has been identified as Mellen.

Confirming the incident, Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba noted that the man returned home and found his wife having a conversation with his neighbour's wife and demanded to know what they were discussing.

"The man suspected that his wife and the neighbour's wife were gossiping about him. He picked a quarrel with the wife but the wife ignored him and went into the house after the neighbour's wife left," said the commissioner.

The county security boss noted that the wife's reaction angered Ongori who followed his wife into the house where he allegedly hit her on the back of her head, killing her instantly.

Mariba said that the suspect had earlier lied to neighbours that his wife had collapsed and died but after been questioned, he admitted to hitting her.

"Married men need to respect their wives and ensure differences in marriage are solved amicably. The suspect will be arraigned in court and charged with murder," said Mariba.
