Despite playing for Kenya in the recent international break Victor Wanyama was left out of the Tottenham Hotspurs squad in their 4-2 UEFA Champions League (UCL) Victory against Olympiacos.
This is the second time in one week that the new Spurs coach Jose Mourinho has left out Wanyama from the matchday squad.
Wanyama is one of the most experienced players in the champions league after playing for Celtic and now Spurs yet he was not part of the 18 man squad to face Olympiacos after previously missing out versus West ham in the EPL last weekend.
The Kenyan captain faced a similar predicament under former Spurs coach Mauricio Pochettino, who brought in £60M France midfielder Tanguy Ndombele in the summer, which meant that Wanyama's chances were likely to be limited.
He's approaching his prime and definitely needs game time. He proved his value in Europe last season after helping Spurs in both legs of the UCL semifinals against Ajax which they went on to finish runners up to Champions Liverpool in the final.
Wanyama has only made two substitute appearances in the Premier League and one Carabao Cup game this season and is yet to feature in the champions league.
Maybe it’s too early to make assumptions but Wanyama should start considering leaving Spurs now after being left out of the match squad and look for regular game time elsewhere.
