Two people lost their lives on Thursday evening while 18 others sustained serious injuries after they were involved in an accident along Mbooni-Machakos road.

The accident involved a 42 seater Minibus that was ferrying people from a burial ceremony in Mbooni, Makueni county.

Machakos county Accident and Emergency services director David Mwongela confirming the accident, said the accident happened at Kamweleni area near the Ikiwe river when the vehicle rolled severally after the breaks failed.

Speaking to Hivisasa via phone, he confirmed that among the 18 injured six are critically admitted at Machakos level five hospital.

"The people were from a burial ceremony in Kikima, Mbooni however at Kamweleni the breaks failed where the Minibus rolled severally killing two on the spot, " said Mwongela.

He appealed to drivers to ensure the safety of passengers is guaranteed by avoiding using alcohol at events if they know they will be behind the wheel.

"I'm warning drivers we won't continue to lose our people. Avoid taking alcohol at functions, ensure the safety of passengers," he said.

Bodies of the deceased were moved to Machakos level five hospital mortuary.

By the time of going to the press, the vehicle had not been towed from the scene.
