Renowned lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi has weighed in on a court ruling that quashed the appointment of former Othaya MP Mary Wambui's appointment as the chairperson of the National Employment Authority.
In a tweet on Friday, the lawyer faulted the decision of the court suggesting that it was based on a misguided premise that illiterate people can't run affairs of institutions because they did not go to school.
"I protest this unfair and scandalous decision of the Court...who said illiterate Kenyans like Mary Wambui and thousands of ELDERS from Mandera, Wajir and Garissa can't do a good job because they didn't go to school in 1940s," the renowned lawyer wrote on Twitter on Friday.
The appointment of the former legislator to the plum position by President Uhuru Kenyatta triggered a firestorm of commentary on social media platforms.
A section of Kenyans voiced their opposition to the position saying that Wambui was not qualified for the job and that it was not consistent with the head of state's policy of giving the youth opportunities.
The petition seeking the quashing of the controversial appointment was filed by the Young Parliamentarians Association.
It argued that the former legislator did not meet the threshold of appointment.
