Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Ezekiel Mutua is urging parents to keenly monitor what their children are watching during this August holidays.
Dr. Mutua wants parents to be vigilant and make sure that their children are not exposed to explicit content.
Addressing the press at the Board's Uchumi House office in Nairobi on Monday, Dr. Mutua who is nicknamed as the 'Moral cop' said that the Board is vigilant and will do everything to ensure children are protected.
"School holidays are some of the most un-monitored times for children, parents should ensure they talk and monitor their children. We all should have a conversation with them and make them understand," the KFCB boss said.
Dr. Mutua indicated that the Board is working closely with the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI), adding that individuals found displaying or selling dirty content to children will be arrested and prosecuted.
He said that parents and the society at large have a collective responsibility to champion for good morals among young people.
The KFCB CEO urged the public to also be vigilant and report cases where individuals or movie shops could be displaying adult content to children.
Dr. Mutua said the Board is carrying our countrywide sensitization campaigns dubbed 'You are What You Consume' in schools to create awareness on the dangers of harmful content to children.
The Moral policeman further appealed to parents to select appropriate programs for their kids during this holidays.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mutua revealed that uniformed secondary school students who were arrested in Nakuru County last week were not watching dirty content as it was reported in some sections of the media.
He said that the students were playing video games, adding that they were released from custody.
"Our NaKuru Regional office keenly followed the matter and established that the students were not watching pornography. I also talked to Nakuru Central Police Station OCPD on phone and he confirmed the same," Dr. Mutua said.
The KFCB CEO said that the Board will fully implement its regulatory mandate and intensify campaigns aimed at protecting children from exposure to dirty content.
He said the Board has deployed enforcement officers across the country to crackdown on dens that could be displaying adult or inappropriate content to children.
Dr. Mutua also urged also urged film distributors approved by the Board to strictly adhere to the license regulations.
At the same time, the KFCB CEO urged the media to support campaign for good morals and national aspirations.
"The media should safeguard the interests of our country through positive coverage," Dr. Mutua said.
