Deputy President William Ruto on Tuesday dismissed claims that the recent political events have left him a restless man.
While responding to a piece on Daily Nation, Ruto affirmed that things are still under control.
He said that the Kibra by-election was only meant to test the waters before 2022, adding that he has a reason to smile after Jubilee candidate McDonald Mariga left a political mark behind.
The DP denoted that the party recorded an improvement during the by-election and that he got an opportunity to send a message to the opposition.
Ruto also said President Uhuru Kenyatta made it clear that Jubilee is united when he met the leaders from Mt Kenya at the Sagana State Lodge.
He was responding to an opinion piece by Macharia Gaitho titled 'Ruto needs a chill pill; his Twitter tirades show man feeling the heat.'
"Gaitho, your piece though inaccurate is an attempted fair comment. In Kibra, we doubled our %vote & used the opportunity to call out the lords of violence. In Sagana, Jubilee's democratic credentials were affirmed. Headlines are paid for, stories planted&span. Twitter is the remedy," DP Ruto tweeted.
In the article, Gaitho argued that the Deputy President should face those behind his woes and not the messenger. He also opined that Ruto has decided to use Twitter to fight his way instead of taking a bold step.
"Instead of shooting the innocent messenger, he should have been turning on his own faithful acolytes and regular mouthpieces," reads part of the piece.
The handshake between President Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Amolo has caused a storm in Ruto's camp. Ruto's allies speculate that the head of the state could dump him.
