Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto on Sunday revisited the death of Baby Pendo, who succumbed to injuries she sustained after allegedly being hit in the head by anti-riot police officers in Kisumu.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on K24 TV, Ruto said that the country did not need to go back to the events that led to the death of Pendo.
He fired a warning to politicians who he accused of heightening the political temperatures, risking plunging the country back into tensions that saw Baby Pendo clobbered only to succumb to her injuries later.
"We need to allow children to grow. We need to allow them to go to school. We must not participate in events that can lead to the loss of children like Baby Pendo. Remember what happened to her, " he said in a K24 video shared on YouTube. (3:03-3:15)
His words come in the context of rising political temperatures triggered by a war of words between the Deputy President Dr William Ruto and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga.
The former county boss vouched for the handshake saying that it restored normalcy into the country away from the violence and tensions of the disputed 2017 elections.
Not much has been achieved yet in the way of bringing to book those behind the death of Baby Pendo.
In a series of interview with different media outlets, Pendo's parents have decried being abandoned by politicians and vowed never to participate in elections again.
