Former Nairobi Deputy Governor Jonathan Mweke has spoken out on the arrest of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko. Speaking during an interview with Citizen on Monday night, Mweke said that even former US President Barack Obama cannot manage the affair of Nairobi county government. He argued that the county needs more funds to resolve major issues facing the residents.

 He said a governor in Nairobi has to go an extra mile to meet the demands of the people who elected him. Make alluded that a Sh.30 billion budget is not enough to sustain the county government of Nairobi.

“Even if you bring Barack Obama who’s been the best President to Nairobi he will fail. Ksh. 30 Billion budget; Ksh 18 B salaries, Ksh 10 B operations & maintenance leaving Ksh 2 B to solve Nairobi issues,” he said.

 He also said that he the capacity to manage Nairobi if he is given resources and support.

“Nairobi just needs the right leader for it to change, Wananchi, I can run Nairobi, give me this job, I have the goodwill and will fix the city for our children” he added.

Former DG Nairobi Jonathan MwekeOn his part, Former Deputy Mayor Nairobi Lawrence Ngacha said that residents of Nairobi are to blame for the woes that have befallen them. He argues that residents of the county have tolerated mediocrity of the highest order.

“Nairobi residents are responsible for giving the city hall very bad leaders. The leaders there are a disgrace & should be ashamed; they get into power & help themselves with public utilities,” he argued. 

Sonko is accused of misappropriating Sh.358milion.
