The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has put on notice individuals selling or consuming alcohol packed in sachets within Eldoret town and its environs.
According to the North Rift KEBS Regional Manager Vincent Cheruiyot, the law does not allow people to use alcohol packed in sachets.
“It's sad that despite the government banning packaging alcohol in sachets, some business person still does it. I want to give a stern warning to such individuals that their days are numbered and they will soon face the full force of the law,” said Cheruiyot who was speaking in his office in Eldoret town, Monday.
“Alcohol must be packed in glass bottles and sold in bars or a place where the County government has given a permit and should be within the accepted hours,” he added.
Cheruiyot further expressed concerns over an increase in the sale of alcohol in sachets in Eldoret town, an issue he says was putting the lives of locals, a majority of who are youths, in danger.
Among the areas notorious for the circulation of the illicit alcohol packed in sachets include Kamukunji and Munyaka estates in the outskirts of Eldoret town.
