The director of Keroche Breweries Tabitha Karanja has doubled down on her claim that she is the victim of business persecution.
Speaking exclusively to Media Max-owned K24 TV on Wednesday, Mrs Karanja said that the commissioner general of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) did not have any iota of evidence to prove that her company has evaded tax to the tune of 14.4 billion shillings.
"So even this, I know, definitely is competition. I know there are no papers that the commissioner general has that he can put on a table to prove that Keroche Breweries has evaded 14.4 billion Kenya shillings," the Keroche Breweries director said.
Karanja Tabitha's words came in the wake of a crackdown by the government on individuals and companies suspected of having evaded tax.
Mrs Karanja and her husband were arrested a few days ago by sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), interrogated and arraigned in a court of law.
The two were released on bail and are expected to return to the dock to answer to the charges that have been leveled against them.
Keroche Breweries is a major employer in the country and has been able to fend off competition from other established companies like the East African Breweries.
