Malaria is an infectious disease caused by plasmodium transmitted by a bite of anopheles female mosquito. The signs and symptoms may differ from one pregnant woman to another. In the early stages, the signs may be mistaken for other diseases like influenza or a common cold.
Here are the common symptoms of malaria in pregnant women as highlighted by Dr. Shalini M A, a gynecologist.
1. Headache
This symptom has been linked to a number of varied conditions. It could be as a result of fatigue, muscle pain, abdominal pain or kidney problems. In addition, a severe headache in an expectant mother can indicate that you have a malaria.
Before you think of taking the OTC drugs, get tested first and establish the exact infection.
2. High fever
A higher than normal body temperature should raise your eyebrows. The symptom is mostly associated with malaria and it is usually common in pregnant women who have fallen victim to the disease.
3. Vomiting
This is another condition that needs your ultimate attention. Have you been lately spewing without any apparent reason? It could mean that you have malaria.
See a doctor before the situation snowballs out of control.
4. Cough
Coughing nonstop in a pregnant woman is not a normal condition. While it might be a mere condition to someone, coughing has been listed among the signs of malaria in a pregnant woman.
