Akama speaking on Saturday in Borabu District, Nyamira County where he attended a fund drive said county governments are unable to handle the crucial docket.

"People are queuing in hospitals seeking medical care because of inadequate medical staff. Governors are unable to hire enough doctors and nurses to provide health services to our people. It is high time the national government to take back the health docket," said Akama.

The Vice-Chancellor insisted that the provision of health services at public hospitals will not improve anytime soon if the national government will not take over the docket.

He argued that governors' failure to invest more in the health docket is the reason medics have been going on strike.

"The National government is capable of hiring medics and pay them well to curb medics' strike. Kenyans deserve quality medical services which must be achieved through hiring qualified and enough nurses and doctors," stated Akama.

Akama further challenged students joining universities to take up medical courses for the country to have more medical professionals to provide desired medical services.
