The Machakos County government has released 38 tractors that will be used by farmers to harrow land during planting seasons.
Speaking in Machakos town on Wednesday, county Agriculture Chief Officer Nimrod Mbai said every ward will get one tractor as the county targets at reaching to over 1,000 farmers in every ward.
Mr Mbai said the county government has also bought seeds worth Sh10 million from the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation to be distributed to farmers.
"The county government wants to ensure every farmer in the county harvests during the El Nino and that is why we are giving out the seeds and tractors to assist them," said Mr Mbai.
He said the tractors will work twelve hours a day in shifts to ensure events are not overtaken by the rains.
Mr Mbai also confirmed that the services were free and whoever will be found selling the services will be prosecuted.
He also asked the residents to be vigilant and report any illegal activities involved in the programme to the nearest county government offices.
He said the services were offered by the county government of Machakos for free in line with their policy to promote agriculture to provide enough food for the county.
