The city currently loses billions of shillings to the menace, which Mweke says was in the process of being solved before they were kicked out in the 2017 general elections.

He revealed that their leadership had sought the help of a British firm Mott MacDonald, which was to come up with a strategy by maximizing on the nine city corridors.

"Kuna traffic consultants kutoka England London wanaitwa Mott MacDonald wakakuja wakafanya traffic study na tukasaidiana nao sisi kama kaunti ya Nairobi, Ministry of Transport na wao tukafanya ile inaitwa master plan tlya transport ya Nairobi,” he said.

This loosely translates to; "There was a traffic consultant from London in England named Mott MacDonald which came and did a traffic study. We joined hands with them, Ministry of Transport and did a transport master plan."

He made the remarks on Radio Citizen's Mjadala Wa Citizen on Wednesday morning.

About matatus, which greatly contribute to the jam, he said that the county was already in agreement with their managements that only two vehicles would be allowed in the city, oer sacco at a given time.

"The agreement was that each sacco would bring only two vehicles and then others would come it and that we dis well with the help of Mr Kimuta (Matatu itakuwa kila sacco inaleta mbili, zikijaa zinaenda zingine zinakuja, na hiyo tulifanya vizuri na Mr Kimutai (Simon) Chairman wa matatu owners ikafanya kazi)," he added.
