In a tweet on Saturday, the Garissa County governor Ali Bunow Korane divulged that the highly-anticipated rally had been moved to 23, February, 2020.

"The BBI NE region rally proposed for 9th February in Garissa has been rescheduled for 23rd February 2020. There is, therefore, NO rally in Garissa on 9th February 2020, " the Garissa County boss wrote in his Saturday tweet.

It was not clear from the governor's tweet the basis on which the postponement had been made.

North Eastern leaders have held meetings in the last few days to bounce ideas off each other in preparation for the BBI Garissa chapter.

Four meetings on the initiative have been held countrywide so far.

They have been held in the Kisii, Kakamega, Mombasa, and Kitui counties.

Leaders from the regions where the BBI meetings have been held have been given the first priority to voice what they would like to see captured in the revised draft of the initiative's report.

The recommendations will be submitted to the BBI steering committee that was given an extension of its mandate by President Uhuru Kenyatta over a month ago.
