Renowned city lawyer Donald Kipkorir has criticised some of the churches in the country.
In a tweet on Monday morning, the lawyer hit out at the churches, accusing them of abandoning the gospel for earthly things.
''When the RUPTURE occurs & our Lord Jesus Christ returns in the second advent, He will not find His Church in Kenya... The Church in Kenya has erected an altar to MAMMON .. The Church prioritizes Tithe, Gifts & Buildings over the Gospel... Sodom & Gomorrah will look Holy Cities!'' said Donald Kipkorir.
The lawyer, who is an ardent Catholic, has never shied away from airing his views regarding any situation.
His remarks come just a day after Catholic bishops in the country banned huge cash donations in churches.
The bishops proposed that if anyone wants to donate to the churches, they should use mobile banking or bank transactions. According to the bishops, the move will help trace the donors and ensure accountability.
Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) Chair Bishop Philip Anyolo noted that even gifts above Sh50,000 should be recorded.
“Henceforth, fundraisers in the church will be done by mobile money transfer or by cheque. This will avoid handling of huge amounts of cash and give a clear trail of the donors,” said Anyolo.
The issue of politicians making donations in churches has been a hot debate topic in the country.
A section of leaders has argued that the money donated to churches by politicians is usually proceeds of corruption.
