In a statement from the State House, Uhuru will be hosting different leaders as the nation marks forty nine years since the demise of Kenyatta.

The commander in chief of the armed forces will lead the service at the Holy Family Basilica from at 10am.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta will tomorrow, 22nd August 2019 lead the nation in commemorating the 41st anniversary of the death of Kenya's founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

The commemoration mass will be held at the Holy Family Basilica from at 10am and will be open to the public,” State House said.

The death of Kenyatta was a big blow to the nation.

Kenyatta was Prime Minister from 1963 to 1964 and then as its first President from 1964 to his death in 1978. After his demise, retired President Daniel Arap Moi took over power.

Moi ruled the country for 24 years before he left power for retired President Mwai Kibaki.

Upon Kibaki’s retirement in 2013, President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is the son of the founding father of the nation took over the leadership.

Uhuru is now completing his second and final term in power since he took over the leadership.
