Mandago said all the children who will be found loitering and asking for money on the streets will be arrested and taken to the rescue centre.

“If you are a parent and have been sending your children to the streets, from tomorrow take care of them or else they will be arrested. Although the government gave us free maternity, give birth to children that you can take care of and not sending them the beg in the streets,” said the county boss.

Mandago who spoke during the Jamuhuri day celebrations in Eldoret town also put on notice individuals bringing food to street urchins saying they also risk arrest.

“If you have food that you want to give to street children take it to rescue centres and not to street children in Eldoret town. Those doing such will be arrested since they are encouraging them to stay in the streets,” he cautioned.

The governor further revealed that his administration will move all street children in Eldoret town to the county rescue centre where they will be provided with food, medication, and education.

Eldoret town has over the years witnessed a rapid increase of street families.
