Constable Hesbon Okemwa Anunda was last seen on Wednesday before the news about his disappearance was reported.

Security officers in Lamu County have since issued a 12-hour ultimatum for locals to come forth and reveal information on his whereabouts failure to which the police will start a crackdown in the area. The officer reportedly disappeared at around 5.30am.

According to the Daily Nation, the officer was spotted leaving the station by one of the guards on Wednesday. It is reported that he had a loaded G3 rifle when he left the station but he never went back.

“We’re informed that he was trekking from Kizingitini Police Station through Mbwajumwali Village to the Tchundwa Police Post where he works. Our colleague was armed with a G3 rifle loaded with 60 rounds of ammunition,” said the police source.

On Friday, Lamu County Police Commander Muchangi Kioi confirmed the disappearance of the officer and warned of dire consequences to the persons behind the act.

He asked locals who might have information about him to report the same with immediate effect as efforts to trace him continue.

Mr Kioi also said that the officer is likely to have been taken hostage by unknown individuals, adding that the motive behind the incident remains unclear.
