This comes amid intense lobbying for the same by Orange party boss Raila Odinga, who created the task force alongside President Uhuru Kenyatta after their March 2018 truce.

Mutambu on Wednesday said that judging by Raila's political power, Kenyans should begin preparing for changes, saying that his word is almost final, especially among his supporters.

He added that Kenyans should not expect anything less than what he has claimed will be included in the new laws, including an expansion of the executive arm of government.

"Ukiskia Baba amesema referendum inakuja hungoji kitu ingine, ripoti ishatoka. Baba akishasema ni referendum usingoje kitu ingine," he said.

This translates to; When Baba (Raila) says its a referendum don't expect anything else, the report is already out. Baba has said its a referendum, don't expect anything else."

He made the remarks on Radio Citizen's Jungu Kuu o Wednesday night, adding that the only remaining thing is the route to be used to arrive at the promised changes.

"Baba's declaration is like being in Kisumu and being told that people are headed to Migingo, whats reminiscing is getting a boat (Baba akiongea nikama kuwa pale Kisumu na isemekane watu wanaenda Migingo, kazi sasa ni kitafuta dau )," he added.

And while the changes appear to enjoy the backing of Uhuru, forces allied to Deputy President William Ruto have questioned the referendum's motives.
